This Calorie Calculator operates on multiple equations, generating results based on a calculated average. Initially, the Harris-Benedict Equation was employed to determine Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), representing the energy expended at rest. It underwent refinement in 1984 to enhance accuracy until being supplanted in 1990 by the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation. The latter also computes BMR and has demonstrated superior accuracy compared to the revised Harris-Benedict Equation. The Katch-McArdle Formula diverges slightly by assessing Resting Daily Energy Expenditure (RDEE), factoring in lean body mass, a feature absent in both the Mifflin-St Jeor and Harris-Benedict Equations. While the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation is generally considered the most precise for BMR calculation, the Katch-McArdle Formula may offer greater accuracy for individuals with lower body fat percentages, provided they know their body fat percentage.
